Despite their somewhat feeble but continuous attempts, West Indies could not win the 3rd T20I, hence, let the English soar away with the series as well. But English deserved every ounce of this series win. It is the first time since 2022 that a visiting team has outdone the hosts in the Caribbean in a T20I series. For England, winning here last came even before that. Having last won a series in this part of the world in 2019, this series win came just when they needed it the most.
West Indies would feel they let down crucial chances in the three games so far. They could not match England’s magnificence with the bat. Especially, the top and middle order failed to establish even an ounce of impact, which obviously hurt the team big time. In the three T20Is games thus far, neither of the Windies’ openers stayed to see the powerplay to the end.
Team Overview:
Before the start of the third game, Reece Topley was ruled out of the entire series, due to yet another unfortunate injury. English batters were not as explosive in St. Lucia as they were during the rest of the series, but they managed to put a decent score on the board. For England, this was a blessing in a very ugly disguise. In the first two games, the top-order did not let the games trickle down to the lower-order batters. Phil Salt in the first, and Jos Buttler in the second made sure that they ran the hard yards to take the team over the line without bothering rest of their team mates. However, this time the middle order was put to the test, and it’s safe to say they did not disappoint. Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran had a party out in the middle with their 39-run partnership that came off just 26 balls.
The hosts were not as disappointing with the ball as they were with the bat. This was largely due to their spinners. Gudakesh Motie and Akeal Hossein jumped above their weight to shift the third T20I in their team’s favor but it was not to be. Although the hosts have lost the series, if they seek a couple of consolatory wins they need to make more sensible decisions while batting.
Head-to-Head Matches:
Despite their horrible run in this series, the West Indies have been the slightly better side in the 33 T20I games both teams have played so far, with seventeen wins against the English next to their name. England resisted their dominance and won the remaining sixteen matches
Weather and Pitch Report:
The fourth T20I is set to be played in St. Lucia again. The pitch favored the spinners heavily, as eight wickets fell to spin in the previous game. And if the same deck gets used for this game, the role of spinners can increase more. England have enjoyed batting second a lot in this series, as coincidentally they got to do so on all three occasions. The toss-winning captain would want to follow what Jos Buttler has done in all three matches.
Prediction:
It has become a matter of when rather than if. England will not want to let West Indies sneak a consolatory win, no matter how low the stakes involved are.
