Pakistan will host Sri Lanka for a three-game ODI series, beginning on November 11 in Rawalpindi. The series comes as part of the schedule adjustment to include as many T20Is as possible ahead of the World Cup next year in India and Sri Lanka. Originally, Pakistan were supposed to play three ODIs and three T20Is in a bilateral contest against Sri Lanka, but the T20I leg has been converted into a tri-series involving the two teams and Afghanistan. The T20I tri-series, where each team will play the other twice, will begin on November 17 in Rawalpindi, where one more game will be staged before the teams move to Lahore for the next five matches, including the final on November 29.
The series will be the first time since 2019 that Sri Lanka will play an ODI series in Pakistan. Afghanistan’s T20I games in the tri-nation series will be a first too, with them never having played an international game against Pakistan in their backyard. They have played in the country in the 2023 Asia Cup and the Champions Trophy this year, but they didn’t encounter Pakistan on either of those occasion.
The white-ball series will begin three days after Pakistan end their all-format series against South Africa, which includes two Test matches, three T20Is, and three ODIs. The red-ball leg of the series will mark the reigning World Test Championship (WTC) winners, South Africa, as well as Pakistan’s first Test of the current WTC cycle. South Africa will begin the all-format tour against Pakistan on October 28, spread across three venues including Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Faisalabad.
The series will see Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, hosting its first Test in over three years and second since cricket returned to the country in 2015. In addition, all three ODIs will be played at Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, a venue that has not hosted an international game since April 2008, when Bangladesh and Pakistan played a one-day game there.
“We are looking forward to welcome South Africa for the opening series of our ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 campaign,” PCB COO Sumair Ahmed said. “Starting the new cycle against the current Test champions will provide quality cricket for our players and fans.”
