The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) has announced an updated schedule for the current edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is set to resume on May 17. The week was postponed nearly a week ago, after a Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) game was called off halfway, due to heightened cross-border conflict between Pakistan and India.
The tournament, which was due to stage a final on May 25, will now conclude on June 3, almost a week after the original final date. As per the revised schedule, six cities across India, including Jaipur, Bengaluru, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Lucknow, will host the remaining 17 games, including 14 group stage matches and playoffs. However, the venues for playoff games are yet to be announced.
Before the tournament was postponed, the league was being held across thirteen venues in India, which have now been reduced to only six. This means teams like Punjab Kings (PBKS), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will not play any of the remaining games at their original home grounds.
Jaipur will serve as the home venue for PBKS for the remainder of the season, while SRH and CSK, who are already out of the playoffs race, will play their home games in Delhi. The abandoned PBKS vs DC game will also be staged in Jaipur on May 24.
The week-long suspension has caused some of the IPL 2025 games to overlap with the white ball series between England and West Indies, which begins on May 29. This will likely affect the availability of many white ball English players, especially for teams still in contention for a top-four finish. Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone, Will Jacks, Jacob Bethell, and Reece Topley might not return for the remainder of the tournament, which could greatly affect the tournament dynamics.
Adding more to their worries is the World Test Championship (WTC) final between Australia and South Africa at Lord’s, which is a little over a week after the IPL final.
While the Australian captain, Pat Cummins, who is playing for SRH this season, has confirmed his availability, Australian players, including Travis Head (SRH), Mitchell Starc and Tristan Stubbs (DC), Josh Hazlewood (RCB), and South African players, including Marco Jansen and Josh Inglis (PBKS), Aiden Markram (LSG), Kagiso Rabada (GT), Ryan Rickelton (MI), and Kwena Mphaka (RR), might opt to miss out.
